A great 10 minute snowboarding compilation. Some classics and plenty of awesome-ness, and a whole lot of monkying around going on. Well worth a watch!

D.W. High 5 Champion exclusive interview
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010Monkipoo is proud to post this exclusive interview with this years snowboard High 5 Champion…..Dave Whittaker.
M.P. So Dave, how does it feel to be 2010 snowboard high 5 champion?
D.W. Slightly surreal, but I’m definitely enjoying it. There’s a rumour that snowboarding won’t be in next year’s event which would technically make me reigning champion for the indefinite future! I think it’s particularly fitting because I’m a big fan of high fives.
M.P. What training did you do for the event?
D.W. The training mainly involved getting acquainted with the sponsors product, Carlsberg, and focussing on my strongest event – the sledging. We had an international team sledging practice back in January (seen elsewhere on Monkipoo), but otherwise I’ve been working with my personal sponsors, The Verbier Touch, to ensure that my body was in the best possible shape before the competition.
M.P. What do you plan to do with your winnings?
D.W. My skiing buddies have been begging me to get some new ski pants since the last ones got a big rip in the backside, so I think i’ll probably splash out on some needle and thread to get that sewn up. I also noticed we’re a bit low on milk, so I’ll grab some more.
M.P. Do you find yourself even more popular with the ladies now you’re a champ?
D.W. I thought I would, but they all seem to think the tall Swedish guy with the blond hair, tan and muscles won.
M.P. Have you been approached by sponsors?
D.W. I’ve been turning down the big companies while I hold out for an offer from Monkipoo, my favourite snowboarding website. Can I have a free hoodie?
M.P. What’s the next event you plan to conquer?
D.W. My ultimate goal in life has always been to rest on my laurels, so I intend to retire from international competition now and do exactly that.
M.P. Do people whisper “look… that’s Dave, he’s a winner” when they see you in lift queues?
D.W. I’ve been encouraging my friends to shout that out every time there’s a cute girl in the queue, but they keep mispronouncing the last word as “weener” by accident.
M.P. Is snowboarding better than sex?
D.W. In both activities I guess it depends who you’re doing it with. Too many people doing it together can ruin a day of snowboarding.
M.P. What’s the worst thing about turning Pro?
D.W. Trying to keep up with all the cool snowboarding terminology the grommets are using these days. I just have to smile and nod when in fact i have no idea what they’re talking about half the time.
M.P. What would be your top tip for any aspiring upcoming snowboarders for how to win comps?
D.W. Don’t be too hasty in your decision making. Ask yourself if you really want to have to live in the mountains, snowboard all day with your friends, travel the world winning prize money, hang out with other pros and live the dream, or whether the attractive pension scheme offered by some chartered accountancy firms in Guildford is actually going to make you happier in the long run. If you’re stupid enough to go down the snowboarding route then just keep getting up the hill and make sure you’ve always got a smile on your face when you’re doing it. Otherwise what’s the point?

Shaun White wins olympic gold in Vancouver
Thursday, February 18th, 2010Last night, Shaun White won his second olympic gold medal in the halfpipe event. After the first run he set a score of 46.8, and after the rest of the riders had their second run, no-one had really come close. So as he set out on his second run, he already knew he had won the gold, it was in effect, a victory lap. His second run, devoid of pressure, was outstanding; a huge backside air, followed by a double-cork 1080 into a switch double-cork 1080, 540 stalefish, and on his final hit, the double mctwist 1260, which has now become known as the tomahawk. He scored 48.4, and along with winning gold, surely sets him up as the most progressive rider, and the best halfpipe rider ever.
We’ve found a new video of the event, but as it’s the whole thing, it’s long. You might wanna pause it, let it buffer and skip through at your leisure later! Highlight for me was Kazuhiro Kokubo’s oh so stylish Japan McTwist at 28mins (second run at 39.30mins). Shaun Whites winning run is at 55mins. There’s plenty of sick riding throughout though, but at least you can skip the adverts!

"Booya, La Plagne bruva!"
When we first arrived in Belle Plagne I was disappointed. There was little apres, kids everywhere & ugly buildings. We we worried that we had made the wrong decision & should have stayed in Verbier! BUT as soon as you get on the mountain the paradiski area with its 425km of pistes proves to be some of the most epic terrain I’ve ridden, easy access back country, park & pipe we are truly spoilt for choice.
We have started collating come pictures of us shredding the place…..Booya!
Shaun White overcomes huge fall to win the superpipe gold
Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010Just in case you thought that this snowboarding lark was easy…Shaun White gives us another reminder that even the best can get it wrong. He caught his head on the lip of the pipe while attempting a double mctwist 1260, the trick he created in his private halfpipe last year. The force of the fall sent Shaun’s helmet flying as he collided with the top of the 22 foot pipe. All this on a practice run, 45 minutes before the final was due to start. Incidently, this is the same trick that Kevin Pierce got wrong in December, and sadly he is still in a critical condition in hospital.
After being checked over by the medics, Shaun was ready to rock once more, and boy did he rock, with a ridiculous 23 foot method air, followed by back-to-back doublecork 1080s, a 540, and finishing with the trick that floored him earlier, the double mctwist 1260. He scored 95.33 to add another gold medal to his collection.
The fall isn’t until the second half of the video, so enjoy the first part, and get worrying for Shauny after that. Again, like the girls vids, the production on this kinda sucks, sorry, it wasn’t monkipoo in charge!
Gretchen Bleiler Wins Womens X-Games Superpipe Final
Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010The X-Games Womens Superpipe Final was again a showdown between Gretchen Bleiler and Kelly Clark.
The two americans were way ahead of third place Hannah Teter, who herself won Gold at the Turin Olympics, but she could only score 70.0 this time. Kelly Clark had a great run herself (the second video below), scoring 96.0 with some huge airs thrown down, but Gretchen Bleiler’s run claimed the gold with a score of 96.66. The gold run included a massive frontside 900, crippler 720, cab 720 and backside 540. Watch her run below (the first video).
p.s. You may want to skip the first 45 seconds of both videos, which are frankly, poorly produced. All that is shown is the girls singing along to whatever music they’re listening to, and they ain’t gonna be on Pop Idol anytime soon! Stick to shreading girls!

Eero Ettala Wins X-Games Slopestyle Gold
Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010Eero Ettala has won his first ever X-Games Medal, and he did it in style getting the gold! It was Eero’s first run that claimed it, with a combo he’d set his sights on all along. Backside late-corked ten, a double backside rodeo nine and a switch double backflip in quick succession. Gotta love the yank commentators too!
Check the winning run out below.
